Department of Political Science
The present generation is very fortunate to have witnessed the many historic political moments, both globally and domestically. Our generation’s involvement in the current political dynamics is a record of our infinite roles that will go down in history books for many centuries to come.
Indonesia’s reformation is no longer limited to the demands of political freedom and the implementation of rules and procedures governing general elections. Institutionalizing good governance and encouraging law enforcement have become priority agendas for establishing a system of governance which ensures welfare for all. In line with our country’s transformations, Indonesia’s credibility needs to be surmounted on the global stage. Moreover, a shift in the epicenter of global economic power from America and Europe to Asia provides an opportunity for Indonesia’s revival.
Meanwhile, the digital revolution has rapid influence on political dynamics capable of linking political actors and their constituents in an unprecedented speed. New forms of media and social networking mechanisms democratize political life on a scale that has never been imagined. Obama’s campaign and the presidential election in America, the Wikileaks phenomenon, and the rapid and massive pro-democracy movements in the Middle East today portray the power of the digital media in shaping a dynamic new era of political life. It is precisely this dynamics which inspires Bakrie University to initiate its Department of Political Science. The Department’s mission is to produce graduates who are both academically capable and professionally competent in contributing to the dynamics of local and global politics.
The education atmosphere at Bakrie University is specifically designed for raising students’ awareness and participation in emerging issues and local dynamics. Bakrie University also trains students to be creative and innovative in contextualizing their political views through various of media. The curriculum and education method are closely contextualized, emerging from on-going dynamics and subject matters projected as future trends.
Bakrie University’s partnership with Indonesia’s political institutions, the policy making circles, the government and bureaucracy, and the diplomatic and media network will enrich students’ experience and sharpen their skills and political awareness. Moreover, Bakrie University’s "Center for Politics and Governmental Studies" will spearhead research in the field of politics and governance, and inspire the emergence of new theories within the Indonesian context of political dynamics. The center is also expected to initiate perspectives useful for decision and policy-making processes in both politics and governance.
Bakrie University graduates are not only professionally and academically competent, but are also expected to master the use of various media to ‘market’ political ideas. Apart from the academic degree, graduates are inspired to spearhead new ideas and build confidence towards global competition.
To accomplish the dream, Bakrie University’s Department of Political Science has three majors, namely Governance, Global Studies and Political System and Political Behavior.
